Iain's Homepage

Hi, my name's Iain Black and I was a fourth year computer science student in DIT Kevin Street, which is located in Dublin, Ireland BUT I am now finished! and assuming I passed all my exams (which I did! I got a 2:1); I am now a graduate and I've now got the photos to prove it! Ah, it's a good feeling, never having exams again and never getting stressed out over having to learn 100's of pages of notes so you can attempt to spurt them out in an exam. I am FREE!!

Last time I updated this page I was in Sweden, expecting to be there for at least 9 months, if not 12, but alas thing don't turn out the way you think they will. I don't really want to go into it in depth here (no doubt I'll bitch a lot about it whenever I put some photos from Sweden up here!), but let's say due to a lot of political factors between my company and one of their parent companies, it was decided that we were going home early. To be honest I wasn't sorry to go either, the work situation over there was very bad, no work to do for weeks and then when we did get some, no support from anyone to enable us to do it succesfully. Social as well as work wise, it wasn't a success. Stockholmers generally seemed to be unfriendly and down right rude in some circumstances. I don't want to stereotype a group of people and of course not every person from Stockholm is rude, but it just seemed many of the ones we bumpeds into socially in bars etc. were. It did seem though, when we did meet some friendly people, after a while talking to them,we would discover that they weren't actually from Stockholm but another part of Sweden! On the positive side I did go up to Goteborg for the weekend with the two other lads and we had a great time! The people were so friendly and bitched with us about people from Stockholm, it was nice to see that it wasn't just us or anything.

While over in Sweden I did get to Copenhagen again (and again on the way home in April!), Goteborg and ski a few times. I was putting off a lot of travel until the Winter ended but just as things were getting better, we got pulled out.

Anyway, enough of being negative, at the moment I am now working in The Hague in Holland!, with around 10 other guys from the company, so isolation or loniness is not a problem anymore. I'm still not actually doing much work but I'm on a project that should get going soon. Holland is a great place, although I haven't had much oppertunity to see all that much of it, well apart from short trips to Rotterdam, Ultrect and Amsterdam that is. The people are quite friendly, it's right in the heart of Europe and is it cheap compared to Sweden! I've got lots of travel plans while I'm here, even if that work thing gets in the way. I went down to France last weekend, to "Gay Paris" and was it sure gay that weekend.. ;-) I had been there before on a school trip years ago, but this time was much more enjoyable and I was able to appreciate it all a lot more. We visited so many places and saw so much on the two short days we were there. But I'll tell you more about it when I put up the photos.

Unfortuntly there isn't anything else new about from this intro as I don't have access to my scanner at the moment and when I did, I'd lost interest in scanning anything in for this page. Hopefully soon...

Please use the menu on the left to browse through my pages and look at photos from some of the places I`ve travelled and worked in over the past few years while I`ve been in college. I`m telling you, this work thing with only 4 weeks of holidays a year lark doesn't sound all that attractive! but I suppose it does have an upside, i.e. you actually get paid for it! Anyway, enjoy the pages and please sign the guestbook at the bottom of the page.
